Miss Jola Johnson, a seven-year-old primary 3 pupil of French Village Staff School, Ajara – Badagry Lagos emerged the national winner of Lantern Books Verbal and Quantitative Competition. She goes home with N100, 000 and a laptop while her school gets N500, 000, a complete desktop computer and library copies of all Lantern Books. The grand draw took place at the combo hall of Lagos Television (LTV); also had regional winners across the country such as Naphte Jonathan from Sharon Rose School,

Literamed Publications Nig Ltd, Publishers of Lantern Books in a bid to promote the intellectual and overall development of the Nigerian child, instituted an annual competition involving all schools across the country last year.

The company introduced the Lantern Verbal and Quantitative competition to reward children and further encourage the development of their overall intellect.

The challenges facing the nation at the moment requires sharp attention only sharp minds can provide. The human mind has unfathomable potentials but would remain blunt if left dormant. The Nigerian child is faced with the challenge of keeping up with his counterparts from other nations of the world. Part of this challenge is intellectual development and reasoning skills.

Literamed Publications pioneered the introduction of Verbal Reasoning & Quantitative aptitude in 1990 (being the first publisher to introduce such publications in Nigerian Education) and the impacts have been innumerable. Apart from achievement in the aspect of development of the child’s intellectual capacity, the V & Q has emerged as a valuable tool and panacea to wider range of problems posed by our dwindling educational system. And since its inception, the V & Q has helped to sharpen problem-solving skills of individuals who passed through the class.

Lantern Steps to Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning books have been adjudged the best ever written by a Nigerian for the aptitude development of children for sharp reasoning skills.

It has equally contributed immensely to the ability of the child to answer examination questions from various fields conducted both locally and internationally. Knowledge of Verbal & Quantitative are widely applied for Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Law School Admission Tests, Medical College Admission Test, JAMB examinations, Job Aptitude Tests, University Admission Tests, Scholastic Assessment Tests (SAT), and so on.

Today, we are rewarding Schools, students and teachers who have kept the faith with Lantern Books over the years. We are also encouraging reading culture by donating books for school children and library copies for School. The star prize of N500, 000(Five hundred thousand naira) went to the school, which produces the grand prizewinner. Schools also won complete desktop computers, Laptops for Teachers, Libraries copies of Lantern Books for schools and pupils and other consolation prizes.
